In A Heartbeat: An animated film giving us all the feelings
In A Heartbeat is a stunning LGBTQ+ love story that will give you all the feelings
The gold medal for feelings this week goes to Beth David and Esteban Bravo, who stole the hearts of people all over the world with their beautiful animated short film In A Heartbeat.
Telling the story of a young closeted boy who risks being outed to his crush by his overeager heart, the video has achieved viral fame in a matter of days.
“I feel like the comment we’ve gotten is that this is the voice that the LGBT community needs, and that they hadn’t seen this presentation in other films before. So I think that’s why it seems to be resonating so much,” Bravo said in an interview with People Magazine.
“The initial pitch was between a boy and a girl. It was a cute idea, but we didn’t really feel as much for it,” David added. “So then we thought, what if the same scenario happened between a same-gender crush? And that’s when it clicked for us. We understood it at a very personal level and it just felt a lot more unique and important.”
Both filmmakers have put the international popularity of the film down to the idea that people are eager for LGBT love stories that reach out to children, instead of playing solely to an adult audience. And we love it.
